SHAPING EU SPORT Project Overview

01.01.2024

The SHAPING EU SPORT project highlights the work of EU Council presidencies in shaping sport policies since 2009, following the inclusion of sport in the EU agenda under the Lisbon Treaty (Article 165). The project aims to promote 15 years of EU efforts in sport policy by making key documents, initiatives, and outcomes easily accessible to stakeholders at all levels.

Focusing on the presidencies of Cyprus, Slovakia, and Estonia, former Chairs of the Council Working Party on Sport will present their priorities, official agendas, and follow-up actions. The project supports the EU Work Plan for Sport (2021-2024), the Council's health-enhancing physical activity recommendations, and priorities such as good governance, integrity, and positive sport values.

As a Small-scale Partnership under Erasmus+, the project targets grassroots organizations and less experienced stakeholders by offering simplified access, lower grant amounts, and flexible formats. It will foster transnational collaboration, strengthen European networks, and support active European citizenship.

Key outcomes include an interactive website and a booklet, capturing EU policy developments and expert insights. The project aligns with Erasmus+ priorities by promoting synergies between sport, health, education, and youth while contributing to evidence-based policymaking. Impact measurement will be based on stakeholder feedback, networking success, and the visibility of EU sport policies.
